The great Paikea Alter
I will take this opportunity to introduce my family.
This is my youngest. She is a long haired miniature dachshund.
Her name is Paikea and she is named after both a. a character from the film, Whale Rider, and b. the Polynesian God of sea monsters and soft-shell crab.
Say hello to her. She's awesome.

Mini Daschunds RULE!!!!!
We have a little Daschy that just turned 8 and has already had two spinal surgeries :-( Paikea and Grace are adorable. Our little one is a short hair and a little on the tubby side...but please don't tell her that.
Yeah they sure do rule.

I grew up around dachshunds and to be honest, I'm not sure I could ever live without one again.
My parents have two (supposedly minis, but they're huge) and they are 16 years old and still relatively healthy.
It gives me hope that with Grace at almost 4 and Paikea at almost 2, that we have MANY years to come.
What's your dachshund's name?
We treat ours like children, which is common I hear amongst owners of this breed.

Yeah Jasmine ( we're both ex-Disney boys so she had to be named after the most beautiful princess of all ) is such a funny little personality we cannot imagine not having that little Daschy running and grunting around the place. She is black and tan but like we said slightly...just slightly.....overweight.
We also have two standard daschund crosses..."Holly" and "Tag" mother and daughter that we got from the pound. They are both awesome but totally different from Jasmine.
We also have a Whippet named "Barnsley" and a Chihuahua cross Pommeranian "BuffY". All are so spoilt.
I wonder how many other comic creators have Daschunds??? I know Frank Cho has one.
My wife was around when we read your post and she has demanded that I ask to see pictures of your dogs.
She is interested in seeing all of them, but in particular, she is interested in Jasmine (She loves the dox) and Buffy (who she says must look hilarious as our young Paikea often does).
